Kaldereta, bulalo, lomi, menudo, tapang taal…the list goes on. These are some of the famous dishes to come out of Batangas cuisine and grace dining tables all over the Philippines. They are comfort food, staple dishes, and party fare all rolled into one. They are as diverse as they are delicious.
Last April 2 and 3, SUP (stand up paddle) boarders from all around arrived at the shores of Matabungkay Beach Hotel to kick off the summer in the 3rd Wahine SUP Classic. Organized by the Pink Paddle Project and FiliSUP for the benefit of the The CAREWELL (Cancer Resource and Wellness) Community, the race had featured three divisions: kids’, men’s, and women’s.
The first thing that comes to mind when I hear the name “Matabungkay” is childhood memories. If you are more or less my age, living in the Philippines back in the ’80s and early ’90s, it is quite impossible not to know Matabungkay Beach Club. It is one of the most popular and notable destination resorts back then and home to many beautiful memories.
Vance Madrid, one of our guest bloggers at the Batangas Food Festival, recently published her article about the BFF launch.
The ideal resort getaway for family and friends is just two hours away from Manila! Located in the seaside town of Lian, Batangas, Matabungkay Beach Hotel has been a top destination for local and foreign tourists wanting to get away from it all for over 30 years. With its comfortable accommodations, wide range of outdoor activities, pampering services, and music and sports lounge, Matabungkay provides the total resort experience.
The stay was great , we did some water sports particularly jet skiing and lot of eating. The pool is cool and the staff are really nice and accommodating. It was one of the trips that will be well remembered.

The place is very relaxing and peaceful. I recommend this to those who want to spend some quality time with their families and friends. They have water activities like paddle boat, snorkeling, banana boat, etc. They also have a big chess, beach volleyball, and basketball. Beach is nice. It is better to swim on the beach in the morning while it is still high tide because in the afternoon, it becomes low tide. They also have 3 swimming pools.
We were there in a very quiet period so we pretty much have the resort to ourselves.
We booked a beach front villa with free breakfast.
People say that it's been around for a while - there are many new resorts to stay in. But I like it because it is not overly developed. It is raw - authentically Batangas, Philippines.
White sand beach - it is not. But it sure is friendly for the kids. They explore the beach and observe the crabs and fishes about.
The swings were also a feature. They sit there and watch the fishermen in the morning. We rotate among the 3 pools in the vacinity. The place is clean with modern ammenities. More than one can ask for. I had a massage every night of the 3 nights we stayed there. :-D The food are yummy and reasonably priced. Staff are attentive and professional. My son said he wants to live there forever.
This is an excellent beach resort hotel with plenty of atmosphere and plenty of beach! It occupies a great location along the beach, and offers an excellent service. The staff are very welcoming and friendly, and go to great lengths to ensure that your stay is really enjoyable. Good clean rooms provide more than adequate accommodation, whilst the restaurant and staff offer a good menu, plenty of choice and an attentive service. We will certainly stay again!

looking for the place is quite easy, there will be a lot of signages to guide you looking for the place. security at the gate is tight, it's an add on to comfortability.
the people are very nice. everyone is smiling and greeting, regardless of what they do. the room given to us was perfect! it was huge! 1 queen sized, and 1 regular sized. the bathroom is also big, with complete toiletries. it also had a veranda with a beautiful view of the beach and the pool. perfect for a smoker like me. it also has a mini ref perfect for water. water alone, because you cannot bring in food or drinks unless bought inside the resort.
the pool is big, and nicely designed. i liked the pool chairs semi sunken in the pool. the beach is a stone's throw away from the pool. but, unfortunately, swimming in the beach is not that feasible for it has a lot of seaweeds and other marine life forms. plus, it is only shin-deep. moving further will only lead to a barricade. so swimming is best in the pool only.
the restaurant offers a wide array of choices, and they serve generously. just be patient because it may take some time for your order to arrive. but you will be amazed how happy the people are despite knowing that tough their work is. it's a plus.
overall, i did enjoy my stay and im looking forward to return very soon!
Room Tip: try the villas. nice design and cheaper for groups of 8
