NOTICE OF RACE

  1. ENTRY
    1. The 3rd WAHINE SUP CLASSIC is open to all regirstrants of the Pink Paddle Project.
    2. The 3rd WAHINE SUP CLASSIC entry fee will receive the following:
  2. RACE CATEGORIES

    There will be 3 race categories and possibly a KID's category:

    1. Kids Division (Boys & Girls)
      • 12 yrs old & below
      • 13 yrs. old to 17 yrs old
    2. Mens Open – 18yrs. old & above
    3. Women’s WAHINE Open – 18yrs. old & above
  3. RACE COMMITTEE
    1. Overall Race Director :Tono Legarda Race Director for WAHINE Open :Tono Legarda Race Director for Men's Open :Nicole Arellano Race Director for Kids :Nicole Arellano
    2. Race Marshalls There will be 3 Race Marshalls per race category. All Race Marshalls must use a life vest.
    3. Safety Marshalls There will be at least 3 Safety Marshalls per race category. All Safety Marshalls must use a life vest.
    4. All complaints, grievances and protests will be reported to the RACE DIRECTOR. The decision of the RACE DIRECTOR will be final.
  4. RACE RULES
    1. BOARD LENGTH & WIDTH - Board length should not exceed 12 feet 6 inches. Board width should not be less than 25 inches.
    2. LEASH & LIFE VEST – All race participants must use a LEASH. Participants are encouraged to use a LIFE VEST but may opt not to.
    3. STARTING LINE – The race director will do a 10 second countdown to start the race. No part of the SUP board should cross the START line before the countdown reaches ZERO/GO. Should any part of the participants board cross over the line before the countdown reaches ZERO/GO, the participant will have to stop immediately and wait for the last participant to pass before continuing the race.
    4. COLLISIONS – The race course will have turns and it is highly likely that board collisions will occur. As a general rule, collisions between boards is ALLOWED. All race participants are advised to try and avoid collissions during the race.
    5. FAIR PLAY – Race participants that deliberately or accidentally cause a fellow competitor to fall off their board will be DISQUALIFIED from the race. For example, if a race participant loses his/her balance and touches/pushes/hits any body (head, neck, back, leg, etc.) part or equipment (board, paddle, leash) component of a competitor that is beside and causes the competitor to fall off her/his board, the erring participant will be DISQUALIFIED. The DISQUALIFIED participant will have to stay clear off the race course and carefully paddle back to shore.
  5. SCHEDULE & SUP RACE SEQUENCE
    1. Schedule Saturday, April 1: 0800-1400 Registration 1400 Race Briefing (WAHINE, MEN, KIDS) 1500 Earliest possible start of race
    2. SUP Race Sequence
      1. WAHINE OPEN: 30-Minute Warm-Up & Group Photo – The race director will announce the start of the 30-minute warm-up & group photo for the WAHINE category. All WAHINE participants are expected to ride the boards and assemble in between the START/FINISH line buoys for the group photo. Right after the group photo, all WAHINE participants are expected to paddle and warm-up right behind the START/FINISH line. The race director will announce a 10-minute warning, followed by a 5-minute warning and then a 1-minute warning. At this point, the WAHINE participants have to be prepared for the 10-second START-OF-RACE countdown.
      2. MEN'S OPEN: Right after the last KIDS race participant crosses the finish line, the race director will announce the start of the 30-minute warm-up & group photo for the MEN's category. All MEN's category participants are expected to ride their boards and assemble between the START/FINISH line for the group photo. Right after the group photo, all the MEN'S category participants are expected to paddle and warm-up right behind the START/FINISH line. The race director will announce a 10-minute warning, followed by a 5-minute warning and then a 1-minute warning. At this point, the MEN'S category participants have to be prepared for the 10-second START-OF-RACE

    1. Trophies and prizes will be awarded to the following:
      WAHINE OPEN : Champion, First Runner-Up, Second Runner-Up
      MEN'S OPEN : Champion, First Runner-Up, Second Runner-Up
    2. Prizes will be awarded to the following: KID'S: Champion, First Runner-Up, Second Runner-Up
    3. Prizes will be awarded for the following:
      1. MS. DARING – A Wahine wearing the “smallest/cutest” outfit
      2. MS. FASHIONISTA – A Wahine wearing the best color-coordinated SUP outfit (“Outfit” includes the board, paddle and leash)
      3. MS. PASSION – A Wahine that has shown exemplary performance in pursuing excellence in any of the SUP disciplines (Race, Wave, Touring, Yoga) or has made significant contributions to the growth of Philippine SUP
      4. The winners of the MS. DARING, MS. FASHIONISTA and MS. PASSION awards will be decided solely by Tono Legarda
